The Rotary Club of Johnson County was chartered on July 1, 1985. Because two of our original sponsors, Gene Amos and Pete Heaven, hand-carried our application to the Rotary International World Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois, we have the distinction of being the first Rotary club in the world to be chartered in the 1985 Rotary year. A "Rotary year" runs from July 1 to June 30.

Our fund raising activities through the years have included raising over $100,000.00 for the Lee Ann Britain Infant Developemnt Center at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, and over $40,000.00 for Heart to Heart International, as well as the Rotary International Foundation and many other charities.

The Rotary Club of Johnson County Foundation is our own 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation, and money donated to our foundation is tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Our foundation is the vehicle by which we raise and donate money to benefit our own community and selected projects around the world.

Our Club was the first of several organizations to participate in the Home-Delivered Meals Program of the Area Agency on Aging. Since 1986 we have faithfully delivered thousands of meals to homebound older adults.

Much of the club's Vocational Service has been focused on the youth of our community - giving them opportunities to learn, grow and develop the skills they will need to succeed in their careers. The club has sponsored several students each year to the World Affairs Seminar for high school juniors at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.

Annual Cost of Membership
  • New Member Fee (one time) - $75.00
  • Annual Dues - $150
  • Quarterly Meals - $130

The Sergeant-at-Arms collects one dollar from each member (voluntary) at each weekly breakfast meeting. This money is donated to the Rotary International Foundation.

Meeting Attendance

Every member of our club should attempt to attend the regular weekly meetings. Rotary International rules specify that each member must attend, or make up at another club, at least 60% of the regular club meetings in each half of the Rotary year.
